Office Cleaning Checklist

Daily, weekly, monthly and seasonal cleaning tasks for a clean, healthy office. Free to print and use.

Use this office cleaning checklist to set expectations with your cleaning company or in-house staff, or to audit what you're getting now. It's the same structure we use to write cleaning scopes for Edmonton offices.

Every visit (daily / nightly)

  • Empty all garbage, recycling and organics; replace liners
  • Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks and counters
  • Restock paper towel, toilet paper, soap and sanitizer
  • Clean washroom mirrors and spot-clean partitions
  • Wipe kitchen counters, sinks, tables and appliance fronts
  • Disinfect door handles, light switches, railings and elevator buttons
  • Vacuum high-traffic carpet and entrance mats
  • Sweep and damp-mop hard floors
  • Spot-clean entrance doors and glass
  • Check and lock up according to building procedures

Weekly

  • Dust desks (clear areas), ledges, sills and partitions
  • Vacuum all carpeted areas edge to edge
  • Wipe chairs, boardroom tables and reception furniture
  • Clean interior glass partitions and doors
  • Clean inside microwaves; wipe fridge exteriors
  • Dust picture frames, signage and window blinds (spot)
  • Scrub washroom floors and drains

Monthly

  • High dusting: vents, return grilles, light fixtures, tops of cabinets
  • Wipe baseboards, door frames and kick plates
  • Clean fridge interior (with staff notice)
  • Machine-scrub or burnish hard floors
  • Spot-clean carpet stains and upholstery

Quarterly / seasonal

  • Carpet hot-water extraction
  • Strip and refinish or scrub-and-recoat resilient floors
  • Interior window washing
  • Winter salt residue program (Nov–Apr)
  • Spring deep clean after gravel season

Tips for a better cleaning scope

  • Separate staff and cleaner responsibilities. Decide who clears desks, loads dishwashers and handles fridge clean-outs.
  • Colour-code cloths. Washroom cloths should never touch kitchen surfaces.
  • Plan for winter. Edmonton salt and sand need extra entrance and floor care from November to April.
  • Inspect regularly. A short monthly walk-through with your cleaning company catches problems early.
